Job summary

RMC Digital Print Limited is seeking an experienced Production Manager to lead the day-to-day running of our production operation in Hull. The role covers planning, team management, stock control, quality and health and safety, requiring calm decision-making under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

You will oversee production planning, ensure on-time delivery, and drive improvements across multiple machines and processes while maintaining high standards and strong supplier relationships.

• Proven experience in a print production environment at supervisory or management level.
• Track record of meeting tight deadlines in fast-paced production.
• Experience of managing a team, including regular production meetings and one-to-one meetings.
• Stock control experience, including ordering, stock management and supplier liaison.
• Experience planning and scheduling work across multiple machines and processes.
• Strong health and safety knowledge in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong decision-making, organisational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Production planning and delivery: plan, schedule and prioritise work across all production and finishing processes, ensuring on-time delivery and adherence to specs.
• Team management: lead, motivate and develop the production team across day and night shifts; run regular meetings and reviews.
• Stock control: manage media, substrates, inks and consumables; raise PO, track stock, minimise waste; manage supplier relationships.
• Quality, health & safety, and maintenance: maintain SOPs, ensure safety compliance, oversee maintenance for uptime.
• Reporting and improvement: monitor production KPIs and identify process improvements to support growth.

We are seeking an experienced Production Manager to lead the day-to-day running of our production operation. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring all work is completed on time, to specification and to a consistently high standard.

This is a hands-on leadership role covering production planning, team management, stock control, quality and health and safety. It requires someone who can make sound decisions under pressure and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Key responsibilities

Production planning and delivery

• Plan, schedule and prioritise work across all production and finishing processes, allocating jobs to the most appropriate equipment for quality, efficiency and cost
• Ensure all work is delivered on time and to specification, including urgent and short-turnaround jobs
• Work closely with prepress, sales and account management to anticipate workload and resolve production issues
• Keep a tight control on quality ensuring minimum reprints across the business

Team management

• Lead, motivate and develop the production team across day and night shifts
• Chair regular production meetings to review workload, priorities, performance and issues
• Hold regular one to one meetings with team members, covering performance, development and wellbeing
• Manage rotas, overtime, training, absence, recruitment and, where required, disciplinary matters

Stock control

• Manage stock of media, substrates, inks and consumables, maintaining appropriate stock levels
• Raise and track purchase orders, carry out regular stock checks and minimise waste
• Build effective supplier relationships and review service levels and costs

Quality, health and safety, and maintenance

• Maintain quality standards and standard operating procedures across all production areas
• Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements, including regular safety walks and audits
• Oversee planned maintenance schedules to maximise equipment uptime

Reporting and improvement

• Monitor and report on production KPIs, including on-time delivery, waste and remakes
• Identify and implement process improvements to support the growth of the business

Person specification

Essential

• Proven experience in a print production environment at supervisory or management level

• Sound working knowledge of health and safety in a manufacturing environment
• Strong decision-making, organisational and communication skills

Desirable

• Wide-format print experience, particularly large-format inkjet, UV or dye-sub
• Knowledge of finishing processes such as cutting, sewing, welding and laminating
• Experience of managing multi-shift operations
• Experience of using an MIS or job management system and working to production KPIs
• IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent qualification
• Experience of developing SOPs, quality systems or continuous improvement initiatives
