The Role

Our client, a successful homeware textiles company based in Manchester, is seeking a Product Technologist in the Home Furnishings division. The company supplies to multiple UK high street retail and online e-commerce sectors. The role involves ensuring products move from design to retail, working closely with internal stakeholders, overseas manufacturers, and suppliers in the Far East, and the customer/high street retailer to meet or exceed expectations for product compliance, quality, packaging, sustainability, on-time delivery, and end-user performance. Experience with critical path management is essential.

Responsibilities
  • Attend and contribute to pre-production handover meetings with design, development, and customer stakeholders to ensure product compliance and suitability for bulk manufacture.
  • Ensure timely completion of detailed product, imagery, and packaging specifications using a PIM system and Illustrator for packaging templates.
  • Maintain and manage relevant sections of the critical path to ensure timely customer product launches, including chasing suppliers for fabrics, samples, and packaging proofs.
  • Participate in sample sealing, checking fabrics, packaging proofs, test/inspection reports, and gold seal samples for compliance.
  • Communicate approvals and rejections to overseas suppliers.
  • Provide updates on sample activity and progress to stakeholders.
  • Hold suppliers accountable, maintaining KPIs for sampling, testing, and inspection deadlines.
  • Handle daily communications with suppliers, customers, and internal teams.
  • Control and evaluate pre-shipment inspection reports in collaboration with overseas teams.
Skills and Experience
  • Experience in a similar role within the home textiles industry.
  • Proactive team player with good communication and collaboration skills.
  • Organized with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and attention to detail.
  • Confident decision-maker, eager to learn and develop industry knowledge.
  • Ability to see the bigger picture and problem-solve effectively.
  • Strong communicator capable of presenting confidently via various channels.
  • Experience working with overseas suppliers in China/Far East, especially in fabric sampling, packaging, and critical path management.
