Job description

Product Technical Manager

Purpose of the Role

As a Product Technical Manager, you will be instrumental in maintaining product quality, safety, and compliance throughout our supply chain. Your role will involve close collaboration with both suppliers and internal stakeholders, leveraging your expertise to uphold our commitment to high standards of product integrity and customer satisfaction.

You will be responsible for developing and nurturing strong relationships with key suppliers, fostering an environment of continuous improvement. Your focus will be on ensuring compliance with the companies quality and product safety standards, while reinforcing adherence to specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • The Product Technical Manager (PTM) is responsible for maintaining current Supplier Assessment Questionnaires (SAQs) and third‑party approvals. These documents will be reviewed upon submission to identify any areas that may require further scrutiny or verification.
  • All supplier visits must foster a constructive and respectful relationship built on trust. The PTM will conduct a thorough evaluation of suppliers and develop a prioritized visitation plan. An approved agenda will be submitted prior to each visit to ensure clarity and purpose.
  • Key suppliers will be subject to specific plans that the PTM will review at predetermined intervals. These plans include: - Code of Practice Gap Analysis Plan - Complaint Improvement Plan - Supplier Key Performance Indicator (KPI) Progression Plan - Site Quality & Product Safety Culture Plan - Quality Panel Plan
  • The PTM will regularly assess Supplier KPIs to gain insights into operational, technical, and product standards achieved by the site. This analysis aims to support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Any concerns or deviations from specifications will be investigated, and a Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) plan will be initiated with the supplier for monitoring purposes.n
  • Key suppliers will participate in an Annual Scorecard Review with the PTM to evaluate progress and identify focus areas for the upcoming year.
  • The PTM will conduct quality panels on selected products within their category to enhance quality standards and minimize complaints. Results from these panels will be documented, and CAPAs will be issued to suppliers in cases of specification breaches.
  • Every product will have a Quality Assurance Specification (QAS) that is reviewed and approved by both the supplier and the PTM.
  • Monthly benchmarking panels will be undertaken collaboratively with NPD to review recently launched competitor products and provide feedback to NPD teams. Internal competitor awareness reviews will be conducted, with the option for independent product panelling to keep the company aligned with industry trends.
  • The PTM will perform Process Audits on specific products at supplier sites if quality expectations are not met over three consecutive panels, ensuring compliance with specifications.
  • Customer complaints, online reviews, and depot rejections will be managed for the category, with the outcomes communicated to relevant internal stakeholders.
  • The PTM will participate in product trials and initial productions to provide technical and quality oversight, ensuring compliance with QAS and specifications as requested by the Head of Technical Innovation. Prior to launch, all new (EPD/NPD) products will have a Product Launch File that must be approved by both parties.
  • It is imperative to ensure that all products meet relevant industry standards, legislative requirements, and internal policies. Remain updated on regulatory changes and emerging trends that may impact product safety and quality.
Desired Experience
  • Retail experience
  • 2 years plus in a position of management
  • Experience in supplements
