About The Role

We are currently recruiting for a Product Support Engineer to join QinetiQ Target Systems (QTS) within our Production Team. QTS is a wholly owned subsidiary of QinetiQ Group PLC, specialising in the design and manufacture of a range of state-of-the-art Unmanned Aerial and Surface Target systems, including the world-leading Banshee target.

QTS targets are used to enable realistic weapons test and evaluation and operator training in over 40 countries worldwide, with QTS providing a complete managed service in over 15 of these countries.

What will I be doing?

Reporting to the Electronics Production Supervisor, you will be responsible for building, repairing, upgrading, testing and calibrating QTS specific electronic system equipment, in Ashford and across the globe, on customer sites.

You’ll perform troubleshooting to component level, to rectify faults and to highlight build, test and design improvements, and provide technical support to all functions of the business.

Duties Will Include

  • Conduct duties in line with the Production plan to ensure that product is manufactured, inspected and tested on time, on cost and to quality.
  • Lead planning activities with the internal stakeholders on performing offsite activities, and execute to plan, to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Testing and calibration of all ground support equipment.
  • Carry out customer servicing, often on site in front of the customer.
  • Maintain and recommend build, test and inspection documentation improvements, and provide justification on potential benefits
  • Assist in the creation of Standard Operating Procedures, inspection instructions and test procedures
  • Create documentation to support and build ST fixtures to support Production and Production Engineering
  • An SME point of contact for internal and external customers on technical support relating to QTS specific electronic system equipment.
  • Lead ATE improvements to maximise throughput and efficiencies
  • To carry out additional tasks as directed by Electronics Production Supervisor, Charge Hand or Production Manager.

What do I need?

You will be degree qualified, or equivalent, in the Electrical / Electronic Engineering field and have experience of using DVM, signal generator, spectrum analyser, power meter and an oscilloscope.

You’ll have a customer focused attitude and the ability to communicate to a high level, to internal and external stakeholders.

We also ask that you have

  • Working knowledge of analogue and digital electronics
  • Working knowledge of RF
  • The ability to work under pressure to strict deadlines
  • The ability to remain flexible to meet customer demand
  • Experience of fault finding to component level
  • Understanding of safe working practices in a factory environment, and the ability to dynamic risk assess while off site to ensure safety
  • Practiced in root cause investigation and problem-solving such as 8D
  • Experience with continuous improvement techniques, such as Lean Manufacturing and 5S.
