Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Process Scientist to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring we meet environmental compliance standards for our water recycling centres within Somerset.

This role involves a mixture of office and field-based work and is primarily based in Chilton Trinity and the surrounding area. It will involve travel across the wider region of Somerset at times.

What you'll do

Our Process Scientists help ensure that we not only comply with all the regulatory requirements but also make sure there is no detrimental impact on the environment through our operations.

You will join the Science team, taking responsibility for ensuring water recycling compliance and process performance with your local operations team.

In addition, there will be regular engagement with colleagues across the wider business on a variety of interesting projects.

As a Process Scientist, you will ensure compliance with quality standards at water recycling centres, including numerical, descriptive and flow permits. You will plan and install measures to improve quality and lead initiatives to reduce operational costs.

Additionally, you will be involved in:

  • monitoring and optimising the effectiveness of sewage treatment processes
  • providing process support in urgent operational issues
  • providing technical support to operational staff to protect and maintain quality
  • innovating new operational practices
  • collaborating with engineering and construction colleagues to support the installation and commissioning of new plant to meet tighter regulatory requirements
  • liaising with various internal and external stakeholders, including the Environment Agency.
What you'll need

You will need to be an experienced Process Scientist with knowledge of monitoring and optimising processes to meet regulatory permits, understand the importance of environmental regulations and have a methodical and analytical approach to your work. You will also act as a role model for health and safety.

You are going to be joining a very welcoming and supportive team. To build on this, you'll need to be able to build professional and supportive relationships with your fellow colleagues, as well as being able to confidently engage and influence various internal stakeholders.

In addition, you will have:

  • a degree or equivalent level of experience in a science, environmental or engineering subject
  • sound knowledge of environmental permitting and wastewater treatment processes
  • COSHH experience would be highly desirable
  • IT literacy
  • data analysis skills – comfortable using Microsoft Excel to an intermediate level
  • a valid full UK driving licence.

  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • A car allowance or company car option.
  • The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days of holiday each year (subject to conditions).
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • Access to an interactive health and wellbeing platform
  • Support from trained mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone who is successfully recruited by us.
