Job summary

Seloxium Limited, a University of Oxford spin-out, seeks a Process Engineer (Design and Scale up) for its on-site Redcar facility. You will bridge development work and engineering, supporting pilot plant scale-up and compliance in a fast-paced, environmentally focused team.

You will work across plant operations, safety, and data analytics to optimise the process from design through scale-up, with an emphasis on sustainable metal recovery technologies.

Qualifications

• Degree in Industrial, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with design emphasis.
• 10+ years’ experience in process engineering scale-up and pilot plant environments.
• Experience in scale-up and technology commercialization.
• Experience collaborating with a process design engineering team.
• Chemical design engineering and mass balance capability.
• Plant data analytics capability and data-driven decision making.
• Process safety/DSEAR awareness and meticulous documentation.

Responsibilities

• Design, install, operate, and maintain pilot plant equipment and facilities for reliable operation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support process development and scale-up.
• Conduct inspections, troubleshoot issues, and implement preventive maintenance to minimise downtime.
• Manage utility systems (electrical, water, gas, air) with health, safety and environmental compliance.
• Support commissioning of new equipment and pilot-scale systems; train staff.
• Drive continuous improvement for safety, reliability and sustainability.
• Maintain comprehensive records and risk assessments to meet regulatory standards.

We are revolutionising clean growth and the circular economy within the mining & refining sectors by selectively recovering high-value metals from in-process or effluent water streams. Our multi-patented ‘selective flocculation’ technology will change the way we mine, refine and process these metals, offering a greener and more sustainable solution to metallic resource recovery and reuse. We are reshaping the way valuable metals are recovered from industrial waste streams and other secondary resources, transforming environmental and process challenges into exciting opportunities for resource recovery.

We are a fast-paced company at an exciting stage of development, scaling our operations across two sites — an R&D laboratory and back-office function in Oxford, and a pilot processing plant in the North East of England. As we grow, we are looking for an enthusiastic Process Engineer (Design and Scale up). This is an on-site role based in Redcar, Teesside, TS10 4RF, U.K.

As a Process Engineer (Design and Scale up) you will play a vital role in supporting Seloxium in the process engineering department and with Seloxium’s obligations linked to its recent success with European funding. This role would support a vital bridge between development work and engineering. This hands-on and engaging role offers you the chance to work at the forefront of sustainable metal recovery technologies within an innovative and collaborative environment.

Requirements

You will enjoy:

• Contributing to the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of pilot plant equipment, supporting facilities to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
• Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams - including plant operators, chemical engineers, and chemists - to support process development and scale-up activities.
• Conducting regular inspections, troubleshoot technical issues, and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimise downtime and optimise plant performance.
• Managing plant utility systems including electrical, water, gas, and air supply ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Supporting the commissioning of new equipment and pilot scale systems, including documentation and training of staff.
• Driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant safety, reliability, and sustainability.
• Contributing towards our compliance goals with all relevant regulatory and safety requirements, maintaining meticulous records and risk assessments.

This role is for you if you have :

• A relevant degree (MEng BEng) in Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline with an emphasis on design engineering and industrial facilities management.
• Experience in scale-up and technology commercialisation.
• 10+ years’ experience with a focus on process engineering scale up, chemical/process and design engineering within a pilot plant.
• Experience collaborating with a process design engineering team.
• Chemical design engineering and mass balance capability.
• A plant-facing mindset and ability to collate and use data analytics effectively.
• Process safety/DSEAR awareness and excellent diligence for documentation, maintaining meticulous records.

You are also likely to have:

• A professional engineering qualification or certification
• Project Management experience
