Job summary

The Ministry of Justice seeks a Probation Services Officer based in Stevenage to assess and manage risk posed by people on probation and to supervise community orders and licences.

You will provide information to courts and partner agencies, produce professional reports, work with MAPPA and MARAC forums, and collaborate to reduce reoffending. You will use computer systems to maintain records and attend professional meetings as required.

Responsibilities

• Assess and manage risk posed by people on probation to protect victims and the public.
• Provide information and advice to criminal courts, other agencies and partner organisations.
• Supervise people on probation subject to community orders and licences and during custodial sentences.
• Contribute to the management of risk and work with other agencies to prevent crime and meet victims' needs.
• Provide professional advice and assessment, including written reports to courts, the Parole Board and other agencies.
• Undertake offender management tasks with people on probation at all risk levels, including high and very high.
• Use computer-based systems to produce, update and maintain records within agreed timescales.
• Coordinate referrals and relationships between offender management, court teams, victim contact units, interventions, Approved Premises, prisons and external agencies.
• Attend professional meetings and represent the PS at MAPPA and MARAC.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, provide professional guidance and support to Probation Services Officers and staff as appropriate.
• Provide cover within your team and to other teams as required.
• Undertake prison, home or other alternate location visits as required.
• Deliver and co-lead accredited programmes commensurate with grade.
• Conduct mandatory alcohol and drug tests as required and follow prescribed procedures.
• Carry out safeguarding duties in accordance with statutory responsibilities and agency policies.
