Job summary

The Ministry of Justice is seeking a Probation Officer to assess and manage risk and to deliver offender management tasks with precision and professionalism. You will provide reports to courts and partner organisations while coordinating with court teams, prisons and external agencies to support safer outcomes.

The role requires a Probation qualification or equivalent, with knowledge of the Criminal Justice System, legislation, and evidence-based risk assessment.

Qualifications

• Probation Officer qualification or be a qualified Probation Officer.
• PQF Honours Degree/Graduate Diploma and Level 5 Diploma in Probation Practice; or Diploma in Probation Studies; or Diploma in Social Work (Probation option); or CQSW (Probation option).
• Knowledge of Criminal Justice System and Probation Service; knowledge of relevant legislation and National Standards; knowledge of Evidence Based Practice and risk/needs assessment tools.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional advice and assessment, including written reports to courts and partner organisations.
• Undertake offender management tasks with risk levels including high and very high.
• Use computer-based systems to maintain records and documentation.
• Ensure referrals and relationships between teams to manage risk and reduce reoffending.
• Attend professional meetings and represent PS at partnership forums.
