Job summary

Ministry of Justice in the United Kingdom is recruiting Probation Officers to assess and manage risk posed by people on probation, including report writing for courts and collaboration with partner agencies.

You will supervise probationers on community orders, licences and custodial sentences, deliver accredited programmes and work across teams to reduce reoffending while upholding equality and diversity policies.

Qualifications

• Qualified Probation Officer or working toward qualification.
• PQF Honours Degree/Graduate Diploma with Level 5 Diploma in Probation Practice or equivalent.
• Diploma in Probation Studies; or Diploma in Social Work (Probation option); or CQSW (Probation option).
• Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System and Probation Service.
• Working knowledge of relevant legislation and National Standards.
• Knowledge of Evidence Based Practice and risk/needs assessment tools.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional advice and assessment, including written reports to courts, the Parole Board, other agencies and partners.
• Undertake the full range of offender management tasks with varying levels of risk.
• Use computer systems to produce, update and maintain records within agreed timescales.
• Coordinate referrals and relationships across offender management, court teams and external agencies.
• Attend professional meetings and represent the PS in partnership forums.
• Provide guidance and support to Probation Services Officers and other staff.
