Job summary

Cornwall Council is recruiting for a Private Sector Housing Officer to inspect properties, investigate housing complaints and support enforcement activities across Cornwall. You will work with Environmental Health colleagues and housing professionals to drive high standards in the private rented sector.

The role offers training, progression opportunities and a chance to develop a long-term career in housing regulation, with flexible working options and a supportive team at Cornwall Council.

Qualifications

• Interest in housing, property regulation or public service.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Professional, confident and customer-focused approach.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a varied workload.
• Good attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and write clearly.
• Ability to gather information, assess issues and follow procedures.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other IT systems.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to learn and undertake training.
• Remain professional and resilient in challenging situations.
• GCSEs including English and Maths.
• Full driving licence and ability to travel across Cornwall.

Responsibilities

• Undertake property inspections and investigate housing complaints.
• Assist with tenancy relations and enforcement activities.
• Gather evidence and carry out revisit inspections as required.
• Support interventions to improve conditions in the private rented sector.
