Job summary

Legal Southwest Ltd in Exeter is seeking an experienced Private Client Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive to join our Wealth Management team. You will handle a varied caseload spanning Tax, Trusts and Succession matters, including high-value estate administration and complex Wills.

The role offers progression to Solicitor, Associate or Senior Associate levels, with hybrid working and opportunities for continued professional development within an established firm.

Qualifications

• Qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with Private Client experience.
• 3–4 years’ PQE or equivalent experience, though other levels will be considered.
• Strong experience in inheritance tax planning, trusts and succession matters.
• Experience handling complex or high-value estate administration.
• Confident drafting Wills incorporating trusts and associated documentation.
• Excellent technical knowledge, research and drafting skills.
• Ability to manage a caseload independently within a collaborative team.
• Proactive, commercially aware and professional approach.
• STEP qualification or progress toward it is advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Manage a varied caseload of Private Client matters including estate administration, inheritance tax planning, trusts and succession planning.
• Advise clients on inheritance tax matters and tax-efficient succession strategies.
• Advise on creation, administration, amendment and termination of trusts.
• Draft complex Wills incorporating trusts and bespoke provisions.
• Handle high-value estate administration matters.
• Provide practical, commercially focused advice to high-net-worth individuals and business owners.
• Work with colleagues on complex matters while progressing cases independently.
• Maintain excellent client relationships and high standards of client care.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Private Client Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive to join a well-established and highly regarded law firm in Exeter.

Our client is seeking a motivated and technically capable lawyer to join their specialist Wealth Management team, dealing with a varied caseload of Tax, Trusts and Succession matters.

The position offers the opportunity to work on complex and high-value matters, alongside experienced colleagues in a supportive and collaborative environment.

The role can be considered at Solicitor, Associate or Senior Associate level, depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Managing a varied caseload of Private Client matters, including complex estate administration, inheritance tax planning, trusts and succession planning.
• Advising clients on inheritance tax matters, including lifetime planning and tax-efficient succession strategies.
• Advising on the creation, administration, amendment and termination of trusts.
• Drafting complex Wills, including those incorporating trusts and bespoke provisions.
• Handling complex and high-value estate administration matters.
• Providing practical and commercially focused advice to high-net-worth individuals, business owners and other private clients.
• Working closely with colleagues on complex matters while independently progressing appropriate cases.
• Maintaining excellent client relationships and delivering a high standard of client care.

Skills and Experience:

• Qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with relevant Private Client experience.
• Ideally around 3–4 years’ PQE or equivalent experience, although candidates with different levels of experience will be considered.
• Strong experience in inheritance tax planning, trusts and succession matters.
• Experience handling complex or high-value estate administration.
• Confident drafting Wills incorporating trusts and associated legal documentation.
• Excellent technical knowledge, research and drafting skills.
• Ability to manage an appropriate caseload independently while working collaboratively with colleagues.
• Strong communication, organisational and client care skills.
• A proactive, commercially aware and professional approach.
• STEP qualification, or working towards it, would be advantageous but is not essential
