Job summary

QED Legal is seeking a Private Client Solicitor in Ripon with hybrid working to manage a private client caseload that includes complex wills, discretionary trusts, probate and inheritance tax matters.

You should have 5+ PQE and be able to work independently, taking ownership of files and delivering practical, client-focused advice. Supervisory or business development experience would be useful but not essential.

Ready to run your own private client caseload, handle more involved wills and estates, and take the next step in an established team?

QED Legal's client is looking for an experienced Private Client Solicitor to join its team in Ripon. This is an opportunity for someone with at least five years' PQE who can stand on their own two feet, manage their files independently and provide sound, practical advice without needing to be shown the ropes.

The work goes beyond straightforward wills and estate administration. You'll handle a varied caseload involving more complex wills, including discretionary trusts, probate matters involving inheritance tax, and trusts work. The focus is on quality private client work of moderate complexity, rather than contentious matters.

You’ll take instructions directly from clients, explain their options clearly and guide them through important decisions around their estates and succession planning. You’ll need the technical confidence to manage matters independently, keep files progressing and deliver the level of care clients expect when dealing with personal and often sensitive affairs.

The role also offers scope to contribute more widely to the department, including supporting colleagues, maintaining high standards and building relationships with clients and professional referrers. Previous supervisory or business development experience would be useful.

The practical details: The role is based in Ripon, with the potential to work from home two days per week.

This would suit an established Private Client Solicitor looking for a role where they can use their existing expertise, take ownership of their caseload and continue developing their career. It's not aimed at NQs, trainees or paralegals; the firm needs someone who can make an immediate contribution.
