Job summary

HMP Eastwood Park in Gloucestershire is hiring an Operational Support Grade to help run a busy prison. You will perform patrol and gate duties, manage deliveries, supervise visitors, monitor phone calls and CCTV, and work rolling shifts including nights, evenings, weekends and holidays.

You will be part of a close-knit team, with duties rotating on a 37-hour week and a pattern that recognises unsocial hours. Salary is £30,491 and comes with Civil Service pension and other benefits.

Responsibilities

• gate/portal duties: ensure secure entry and exit, searches of staff, prisoners, visitors, contractors and vehicles; issue/collect staff keys/radios
• control room: monitor CCTV and operate the establishment radio system; report suspicious activities
• visits: book visits; identify and process visitors on arrival; escort them if required
• censors/correspondence: monitor/log mail; report illicit items; preserve evidence
• night duties: ensure cell doors are locked and all prisoners are accounted for
• reception: support tasks in reception; photograph prisoners; process property paperwork; search/x-ray items
• prisoner supervision: supervise prisoners and assist officers with movement
• food delivery: deliver/collect food; may involve an electric tug vehicle
• driving duties: transport prisoners and escorts; collect mail from sorting office
• phone calls: monitor PIN system; log PIN calls; keep audit trail and ensure legal numbers are registered
• procedures: understand and conform to national/local policies; respond to emergencies
