Job summary

Ministry of Justice is seeking an Operational Support Grade to help run a busy prison, performing a range of support services from gate duties to prisoner supervision. You will work in a close-knit team, on a rolling shift pattern including nights, with an average of 37 hours per week.

The role involves managing deliveries, supervising visitors, monitoring CCTV and phone systems, and handling property processes.

Qualifications

• Experience working in a team to support day-to-day operations.
• Ability to manage gate duties, deliveries and visitor supervision.
• Willingness to work nights, evenings, weekends and public holidays.

Responsibilities

• Gate/portal duties: ensure secure entry/exit, search staff, prisoners, visitors and vehicles, issue/collect staff keys and radios.
• Control room: operate radio system, monitor CCTV and report suspicious activity.
• Visits: book visits, identify/process visitors and escort as required.
• Censors/correspondence: monitor/log mail and report contraband items; preserve evidence.
• Night duties: ensure cells are locked and prisoners accounted for.
• Reception: assist with tasks in reception, photograph prisoners, collate documentation, check seals on property storage.
