The Opportunity
As we move into AMP 8 and continue with our growth plans across the UK & Ireland, we're interested in hearing expressions of interest from Water Resource Consultants seeking their next career opportunity in the coming weeks and months.

Find your focus, grow with us, and be part of the solution to water challenges facing us in the future. How will you make a difference?

Do you recognize the vital role water plays in health, environment, and economy? Are you aware of challenges like climate change, sustainability standards, and population growth? If you want to be part of a team leading in building resilient, sustainable water supplies for the UK and internationally, we want to hear from you!

Stantec is a top-tier global consultancy, named ‘Best Place to Work’ at the 2024 NCE Awards. We are known for innovative water supply solutions, environmental and regulatory services for public and private clients in the UK. With ambitious growth targets in water resources planning, we seek experienced professionals (5-10 years in the water industry) to play key roles in delivering our projects.

Opportunities are available at various UK locations including Birmingham, Redditch, High Wycombe, Reading, and Shrewsbury. Other locations may also be considered, along with collaborative international projects.

About This Opportunity

It's an exciting time for water resources in the UK, with Ofwat investing heavily in infrastructure (£4bn for supply, £2bn for nature-based solutions for 2025-30). This includes funding for resilience, security of supply, leakage reduction, and smart meters.

Since 2020, Stantec has been involved in numerous water resource initiatives, including SRO investigations, WRMPs, Drought Plans, and WINEP assessments, supporting water companies in their AMP8 schemes and future planning.

Our team collaborates with water companies, regulators, engineers, contractors, and stakeholders to achieve positive project outcomes.

As a senior team member, you will:

  • Manage full project lifecycle from inception to handover, ensuring scope, budget, schedule, quality, and regulatory compliance. Lead by example, mentor less experienced team members, and review their work.
  • Bring substantial expertise in WRMP development, regional plans, drought strategies, water models, demand management, options development, and environmental assessments (HRA, SEA, WFD). Support SRO development through RAPID processes.
  • Support broader water resources initiatives, collaborate across disciplines, and adapt to various projects.
  • Leverage networks to achieve project success, and manage bids and proposals within budget and quality constraints, providing strategic insights for AMP8.
About You

We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds (regulatory, water company, consultancy) with recent experience in water resources policy and technical work. You should be comfortable working in fast-paced, multidisciplinary teams, engaging closely with clients, authorities, and stakeholders. Previous experience with WRMPs, regional plans, SROs, or drought strategies is preferred.

We Are Looking For
  • Extensive experience leading and developing WRMPs, drought plans, regional plans, water resource assessments, demand forecasts, options appraisals, and risk analysis.
  • Experience with WINEP investigations, environmental assessments, licensing, catchment management, climate impact assessments, and options analysis.
  • Deep understanding of UK water resources regulations and guidelines.
  • Proven project management skills, including managing large teams and complex projects.
  • Strong client relationship track record.
  • A relevant degree (geography, geology, environmental science, civil/environmental engineering) and preferably postgraduate qualifications in hydrology, hydrogeology, or water resources management. Chartered membership with CIWEM, ICE, or the Institute of Water is desirable.
