We are seeking a skilled technician based in the Mechanics, Materials and Design Division at the Department of Engineering in Central Cambridge. The division offers extensive undergraduate teaching in mechanics and materials, supported by laboratory exercises that are regularly revised. Laboratory equipment includes microscopy, mechanical testing devices, heat treatment, and NDT analysis facilities.
Reporting to the Materials Laboratory Manager, you will provide technical support to ensure the effective operation of the materials teaching laboratories. Responsibilities include advising staff and students on experimental techniques, supporting teaching activities, maintaining laboratory equipment, and potentially managing a small budget for equipment and specimens.
The ideal candidate will have practical experience with specialized laboratory equipment and knowledge in a materials engineering-related field. Good communication and IT skills are essential, along with familiarity with relevant regulations and best practices. Precision in manufacturing mechanical parts and experience in training groups and individuals are desirable.
