Ultra Engineering manages a portfolio of specialist capabilities, applying electronic, mechanical, and software technologies to meet customer needs in demanding environments.
The Project/Systems Engineering function provides expertise throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring requirements are met, and improving engineering practices. It handles system requirements, architecture, design, and integration, focusing on cost-effective and manufacturable solutions, supporting the product/service lifecycle.
This role requires applying technical knowledge, making independent judgments, and mentoring others. It often acts as a senior or referral point, acting independently with minimal guidance.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the Systems discipline, ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery of work packages.
- Support the Engineering Project Lead in delivering project obligations.
- Develop technical solutions for complex engineering problems, following Systems Engineering processes.
- Create Systems Engineering artifacts across the development lifecycle.
- Contribute to design, development, and delivery of engineering artifacts.
- Provide technical direction and influence architecture, design, and implementation choices.
- Collaborate with architects to ensure design consistency and reusability.
- Present at design reviews and manage project aspects to balance requirements, schedule, and cost.
- Manage customer and supplier relationships to ensure compliance and achievement of objectives.
- Review technical proposals and provide effort, cost, and risk estimates.
- Work with other disciplines to optimize project costs and margins.
- Estimate effort for systems activities and adhere to schedules.
- Review and approve technical documents and lead technical reviews.
- Explain complex concepts clearly to less technical audiences.
- Ensure information security compliance.
- Support improvements and growth within the Systems discipline.
- Participate in recruitment, early careers development, and STEM engagement.
- Lead initiatives to promote a systems approach and practices.
- Develop expertise in specific technical areas and act as a subject matter expert.
- Lead and coach team members, supporting their development and continuous improvement.
Role requirements:
- Essential: Hold or obtain SC security clearance.
- Desirable: Willing to obtain and maintain DV security clearance.
Qualifications / skills:
Essential:
- Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or relevant industry experience.
- Experience with Systems Engineering, V-Model, and lifecycle processes.
- Proven ability to develop requirements and compliant system designs.
- Technical and leadership experience managing a team of systems engineers.
- Experience in technical documentation and reviews.
- Knowledge of Systems Engineering practices, methodologies, and trends.
- Experience with tools like DOORS, UML, SEBoK, Enterprise Architect, SysML.
- Hands-on experience in hardware, software, or firmware development, especially embedded systems.
Desirable:
- INCOSE ASEP or CSEP recognition.
- Experience as a Subject Matter Expert and developing new expertise areas.
