Job description
Overview

The Simulation and Modelling department are looking for experienced engineers, physicists, or mathematicians with proven experience in modelling dynamic complex systems and producing high standards of code, to join our engineering teams in Surface Launched Air Defence and Future Systems. The role focuses on the development, integration, and validation of dynamic numerical models, primarily using MATLAB and Simulink. We work with weapon effectors and wider system components to provide simulations from concepting to assessment and through life support. We engage with external teams and partners to integrate external models into our environments, and work closely with system designers, control engineers, and software developers to support the full development lifecycle. Automation is a key part of our testing process, and we are hands on in implementing continuous integration and verification processes, in conjunction with detailed model validation against experimental or field trial data. Ensuring quality standards is important, and all engineers participate in model reviews, documentation, and robust configuration management of models. As a technical leader, the role includes collaboration with cross‑functional teams as representative of the modelling team, and presenting technical solutions for system integration and performance assessment activities.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, integrate, and validate dynamic numerical models, primarily using MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Collaborate with weapon effectors and wider system components to simulate products from concept to assessment and through life support.
  • Coordinate with external partners to integrate external models into our modelling environments.
  • Work with system designers, control engineers, and software developers to support the full development lifecycle.
  • Implement automated testing, continuous integration, and verification processes; perform model validation against experimental or field trial data.
  • Uphold quality standards through model reviews, documentation, and robust configuration management.
  • Act as technical lead within the modelling team and present solutions for system integration and performance assessment.
Qualifications
  • Proven hands-on experience with MATLAB and Simulink, or other programming languages for system modelling and simulation.
  • Knowledge of coding standards and peer review of coding changes.
  • Strong understanding of dynamic systems and numerical modelling.
  • Familiarity with model-based design methodologies, the software development cycle, and systems engineering processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Experience with version control tools (e.g., Git, EWM).
  • Hands-on experience of automated C/C++ code generation from Simulink.
  • Experience working with external partners.
