Job summary

TÜV Rheinland Solutions Derby rail division seeks an experienced Principal Engineer to lead rolling stock consultancy projects in the UK, reporting to the Team Leader and delivering high-quality technical outputs.

You will win, manage and deliver your own projects, collaborate with the existing team, and leverage industry contacts to shape the service portfolio and business development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronic Engineering.
• 10–15 years of experience in the rail industry.
• Chartered Engineer status (IMEchE or IET).
• Extensive experience in rolling stock engineering, including consultancy services.
• Strong problem-solving, excellent technical communication, commercial awareness and professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Develop proposals and undertake account management to secure further work.
• Provide technical leadership, oversight and support for junior team members.
• Support high-quality technical checking and approval within projects.
• Manage projects, budgets, quality and timeliness of deliverables.
• Deliver consultancy services that add value and meet client needs.
• Support strategy and tactics input to the Team Leader.
• Contribute to sales income through active client engagement to grow the orderbook.
• Represent TÜV Rheinland at industry events and committees as required.
