Mott MacDonald Bentley is recruiting a Principal Process Engineer to join the Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA).

The 330 km SPA Project by Anglian Water is under construction and will be completed during AMP8. Additionally, there are 260 km of water transfer pipelines and infrastructure to be delivered in AMP8.

What will you be doing as our new Principal Process Engineer?

Provide innovative designs that deliver value for money and act as a proactive problem-solver by applying engineering principles. Lead by reviewing the mandate, preparing scope, methodology, programme, and resource estimates for the design stage, and providing design support during construction.

You will be embedded within the SPA delivery team, responsible for a section of the design output, monitoring workload, and liaising with mechanical and electrical engineers, Design Leads, and other disciplines. You will work alongside the Process Lead to develop and understand the system-wide performance of pipelines and infrastructure assets, and how these designs interact with existing AWS systems.

Your role will include developing water quality design proposals, gaining client approval, and providing information to project teams for key scheme gateways.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design of process systems for clean water pumping stations, dosing packages, and control systems, incorporating complex hydraulics and system control.
  • Complete process calculations to produce datasheets or requirement specifications for each project.
  • Perform process calculations, hydraulics, pump calculations, water quality assessments, control philosophies, SCADA integration, and system commissioning.
  • Support the Process Discipline Head in promoting H&S standards, ensuring safe designs compliant with CDM Regulations and industry standards.
  • Ensure all technical work meets standards and specifications.
  • Maintain quality and consistency in all process engineering documents.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure proper review and approval of technical deliverables.
  • Communicate effectively across all levels to promote technical excellence.
  • Coordinate with other engineers and discipline leads to ensure smooth interface and share best practices.
  • Work closely with Technical Managers to provide technical guidance and explore innovative solutions.
Skills, Experience, and Behaviours
  • Degree in water/wastewater process science/engineering or related field.
  • Postgraduate qualification such as CIWEM or MSc preferred.
  • Membership of a professional body.
  • Experience in process engineering.
  • Experience with Process/Mechanical Design & Build supporting SPA’s lean project delivery.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and IT proficiency.

We are committed to diversity and inclusion. We encourage applications from all backgrounds and identities. If you are excited about this role but don’t meet every requirement, we still encourage you to apply.
