Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior or Principal Peat Scientist to join the Environment Practice in the UK, ideally based in Scotland. You will lead peat surveys, develop sustainable management strategies, and help deliver projects across infrastructure, natural capital, and nature-based solutions.

The role involves client engagement, bid support, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring health and safety on site. A strong peat science background and willingness to travel across the UK are essential.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in peat/soil science or a related field.
• Post-graduate experience in peat assessment and management.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the UK.
• Chartered membership with support to become chartered is a plus.
• Proven experience in peat surveys, hydrology and landscape interpretation.
• Strong report writing and client-communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical delivery of peat surveys and development of sustainable management strategies.
• Support and contribute to client work development, proposals and bids for infrastructure projects.
• Liaise with clients, regulators, sub-contractors and internal teams to deliver integrated services.
• Collaborate with environmental scientists, engineers and planners to provide holistic solutions.
• Maintain professional relationships to secure repeat business and ensure project success.
• Ensure Health and Safety compliance, including on-site plans and activities.
• Provide mentoring and development support to junior staff; pursue CPD.
• Develop competence and training needs with management support.
