Overview

AtkinsRéalis’ Building Design Practice is looking for an experienced, motivated Senior / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in the new central Manchester office. The role involves working as part of a national practice delivering engineering design solutions across a multi‑sector portfolio, including Commercial, Defence, Energy, Education and Healthcare.

About the role

• Undertake the design and specification of all Mechanical Building Services systems from concept through to detailed design – including heating, cooling, ventilation and public health systems.
• Produce detailed calculations using industry standard software tools such as Hevacomp, MEPworx and IES.
• Prepare technical specifications, design reports and presentations.
• Collaborate with the BIM team to prepare Revit models and drawings.
• Represent AtkinsRéalis at client and professional meetings.
• Conduct condition surveys, inspections and monitor installation and commissioning.
• Manage your own workload to deliver projects to agreed deadlines and budgets.
• Assist with the technical development of junior team members.

About You

• Relevant experience in Building Services Engineering with a passion for design excellence.
• Degree qualified or equivalent in Building Services Engineering / Mechanical Engineering or related subjects.
• Working towards, or a Chartered Member of, CIBSE, IMechE or equivalent body.
• Experience with calculation software such as IES, Hevacomp, StabiCAD, Revit and Microsoft Office.
• Detailed knowledge of UK technical standards and codes of practice.
• Familiarity with energy reduction methods and decarbonising approaches.
• Understanding of energy and carbon data capture, analytics and performance verification.
• Competent in designing for measurement and verification, including commissioning and post‑installation performance evaluation.
