Job description

NES Fircroft is partnering with a major Engineering & Services client to recruit Principal, Senior, and Mechanical Engineers at all levels for long-term projects based out of Warrington. Hybrid working arrangements are available. The project duration is 3 years, with a minimum of 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Job Role:

The successful candidate will deliver work packages across various system scopes for all three Silo Emptying Plant (SEP) Machines, involving mechanical handling and lifting problem-solving scenarios.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Originate and review engineering documentation.
  2. Support project optioneering processes.
  3. Review and approve project drawings and documentation.
  4. Participate in design reviews and project meetings.
  5. Attend hazard identification workshops, optioneering reviews, and stakeholder meetings.
  6. Manage detailed design activities following project standards.
  7. Provide technical assessment and approval of contractors' work instructions, method statements, and risk assessments.
  8. Guide construction and deconstruction activities to ensure compliance with design intent.
  9. Specify and supervise commissioning and decommissioning activities.
  10. Engage with stakeholders to ensure effective project delivery.
  11. Adhere to Environment, Health, Safety, Security, and Quality policies and procedures.
Essential Requirements
  1. Experience in mechanical handling and lifting operations.
  2. Previous experience within the nuclear industry.
  3. Ability to review, understand, and challenge engineering calculations per BS 2573 or similar standards.
  4. Proven track record in delivering cost-effective, fit-for-purpose mechanical design solutions.
  5. Strong problem breakdown and resolution presentation skills.
  6. Capability to produce, deliver, and report on work plans.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with diverse stakeholders.
  8. Knowledge of relevant machinery regulations (e.g., SOMSR 2008, CDM, PUWER, LOLER).
  9. Familiarity with engineering drawings and standards like BS 8888 and GPS.
Desirable Requirements
  1. CEng or IEng status preferred.
  2. Proven ability to apply engineering judgment for evidence and risk-based decisions.
  3. Experience creating manufacturing specifications and resolving manufacturing issues.
  4. Experience producing EO packs and supporting component quality documentation.
  5. Familiarity with Technical Files and EHSRs.
  6. Experience in design substantiation and Safety Case documentation.
