Job description

NES Fircroft is partnering with a major Engineering & Services client to provide Principal, Senior, and Mechanical Engineers at all levels for long-term projects based out of their Warrington office. Hybrid working is available. This is a 3-year project with a minimum of 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Job Role:

The successful candidate will deliver work packages across various system scopes for all three Silo Emptying Plant (SEP) Machines, involving mechanical handling and lifting problem-solving scenarios.

Key Responsibilities
  • Originate and review engineering documentation.
  • Support project optioneering processes.
  • Review and approve project drawings and documentation.
  • Participate in design reviews and project meetings.
  • Attend hazard identification workshops, optioneering reviews, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Manage detailed design activities following project standards.
  • Assess and approve contractors' work instructions, method statements, and risk assessments.
  • Provide technical guidance during construction and deconstruction activities to ensure compliance with design intent.
  • Specify and supervise commissioning and decommissioning activities.
  • Engage with stakeholders to ensure efficient project delivery.
  • Adhere to Environment, Health, Safety, Security, and Quality policies and procedures.
Essential Requirements
  • Experience in mechanical handling and lifting operations.
  • Previous experience in the Nuclear industry.
  • Ability to review, understand, and challenge engineering calculations per BS 2573 or similar standards.
  • Proven ability to deliver cost-effective and schedule-compliant mechanical design solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to analyze issues and present options.
  • Capability to produce, deliver, and report on work plans.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of regulations related to machinery delivery (SOMSR 2008, CDM, PUWER, LOLER, etc.).
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings and standards such as BS 8888 and GPS.
Desirable Requirements
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status preferred.
  • Ability to apply engineering judgment for evidence and risk-based decisions.
  • Experience in creating manufacturing specifications and resolving manufacturing queries.
  • Experience in producing EO packs and supporting component quality requirements.
  • Experience with Technical Files, EHSRs, and safety case deliverables.
