Skilled Careers seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design for data centre and technology projects in London. You will manage concept to construction, mentor teams and ensure technical excellence across disciplines, while engaging with clients and design partners.

Applicants should have a degree in mechanical engineering, CEng membership, 10+ years' experience in consultancy, and a strong grasp of UK regs.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• CEng with membership (CIBSE/IMechE) preferred.
• 10+ years' experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in consultancy.
• Proven data centre or complex building project delivery.
• Strong client-facing and leadership abilities.
• Knowledge of UK Building Regulations and CIBSE guidance.

A leading international M&E consultancy is seeking an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to join its growing Data Centre and Technology team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of complex data centre and technology projects.
• Manage projects from concept through to construction and completion.
• Lead and mentor mechanical engineering teams.
• Develop and review mechanical designs, specifications, calculations and technical documentation.
• Coordinate designs with clients, architects, contractors and other disciplines.
• Manage project programmes, deliverables, quality and technical compliance.
• Provide technical leadership and resolve complex engineering issues.
• Attend and lead client and design team meetings.
• Support project delivery, commercial management and business development.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant UK regulations, standards and Health & Safety requirements.

Requirements

• Degree/HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• CEng with professional membership such as CIBSE or IMechE.
• 10+ years' experience in mechanical engineering, ideally within consultancy.
• Strong experience delivering data centre, mission-critical or other complex building projects.
• Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical building services, including HVAC, cooling, heating and associated systems.
• Experience taking projects from concept/design through construction.
• Strong client-facing, communication and leadership skills.
• Good understanding of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance and relevant standards.
• Commercial awareness and experience managing project deliverables and fees.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant engineering/design software.
• Willingness to travel when required.
