Job summary

Modis is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a long-term contract in Bristol. The role involves delivering mechanical design and proving activities for parts and assemblies, while collaborating with multifunctional teams and participating in design reviews.

Qualifications

• Experience with Creo 3D design tool and overall mechanical design proficiency.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and design for manufacture principles.
• Ability to perform tolerance studies and mass property calculations.
• Familiarity with environmental testing, material selection and FMEA.
• Awareness of defence standards and design review practices.
• Experience in tooling/fixtures design and environmental gasket sealing.
• Understanding of product lifecycles and industrial validation requirements.
• Collaborates within multifunctional teams and participates in design reviews.

Responsibilities

• Carry out mechanical design and proving activities for parts and assemblies within a larger team.
• Support manufacturing to resolve manufacturing problems and defects.
• Support functional and environmental testing and trials.
• Liaise with suppliers/purchasing to resolve technical queries.
• Plan and report day‑to‑day activities to meet project milestones.
• Clarify and challenge requirements to reduce lead time and design complexity.

Mechanical Design Engineer required for long term contract assignment in Bristol

Skillset/experience required:

• Experience using Creo 3D design tool
• Knowledge of several of the following:
• Manufacturing processes
• Tolerance studies
• Environmental test
• Mass property calculations
• Material selection
• FMEA
• Design for Manufacture/Assembly
• Environmental Gasket Sealing
• Tooling/fixtures design

• An ability to work as part of a multifunctional engineering team and be able to partake in or host design reviews.
• An appreciation of other engineering areas/domains.

Responsibilities:

• Carry out Mechanical Design and proving activities as part of a wider team for prime and variant products, of both piece parts and assemblies.
• Support/liaise with manufacturing, resolving manufacturing problems & defects.
• Support to functional & environmental testing and trials.
• Liaise with suppliers/purchasing to resolve any technical queries that may arise.
• Planning and reporting on own day–to–day activities to meet project milestones.
• Gain clarification of and help to generate requirements, including challenging of extraneous requirements to reduce lead time, UPC and design complexity
