The Principal, IT Architect is accountable for delivering aspects of the Enterprise Reference Architecture and Architecture Practice that support IT for the Bank. These architectures provide strategic guidance for all technology initiatives. The role involves defining the overall architecture and design of IT solutions, collaborating with technical and functional specialists to develop solutions within the defined architecture.

The role primarily interacts with IT teams and also engages with various business functions across the Bank.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

• Deliver, maintain, and communicate the Enterprise Reference Architecture (ERA) to ensure systems are fit for purpose and meet evolving business needs.
• Contribute to the Architectural Knowledge Base for consistent and efficient reuse of architectural assets.
• Explain and promote the ERA within IT to develop understanding of strategic architectural priorities.
• Advise project teams and facilitate practice groups to keep stakeholders informed.
• Champion and exemplify the Bank’s Behavioural Competencies and Corporate Behaviours, ensuring high standards of integrity and ethics.
• Provide early-stage technical guidance to projects to ensure optimal direction.
• Ensure solutions are technically sound, functional in production, and operational risks are understood and agreed upon.
• Balance short-term delivery needs with medium-term strategic goals, with explicit governance for deviations.

Specialism - Networks and Modern Infrastructure:

This role is the subject matter expert for Networks and Modern Infrastructure architecture, covering Connectivity (WAN and LAN), Video and VoIP, VDI, Mobile Device Management, Backup, Compute, and Storage. It offers practical guidance, oversight, and hands-on assistance for change projects and business engagement. Candidates should have experience architecting and deploying hybrid/on-premise, SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS solutions.

Technologies of advantage include SD-WAN, Cisco HCI, Cisco Networking, VoIP/SIP, Microsoft Teams Unified Communications, Video InterOp, Storage Solutions (IP/FC), Backup, Azure IaaS.

Experience with relevant software vendors, partners, or financial institutions is beneficial.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree; Master’s preferred or equivalent experience.
• Qualification in Enterprise or Solution Architecture.
• Relevant specialism certifications.
• Extensive experience in solution architecture across platforms and domains.
• Experience in IT project implementation lifecycle and integration technologies.
• Ability to develop deep business knowledge and advise across IT and business domains.
• Broad knowledge of contemporary IT platforms, techniques, and methodologies.
• Experience in drafting and presenting solutions.
• Experience working in mid-sized corporate environments, aligning solutions with wider roadmaps and initiatives.
• Proven collaboration skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and modeling skills.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and fluency in English.
• Ability to operate sensitively in a multicultural environment.
