Job summary

SYSTRA in the United Kingdom is seeking a Principal Engineer (Highways) to lead highway and drainage design efforts, manage projects, and mentor engineers. The role focuses on development infrastructure from feasibility through detailed design, collaborating across multidisciplinary teams for public and private clients.

Qualifications

• Lead designs on highway and drainage schemes.
• Coordinate with disciplines and external/internal teams.
• Manage budgets, resources and programming.
• Ensure designs comply with standards (DMRB, MfS, etc).
• Mentor engineers and supervise junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Lead designs on small projects and assist in delivery.
• Prepare technical outputs and coordinate with disciplines.
• Control financial, technical and project management aspects.
• Delegate to engineers and supervise teams.
• Support development of less experienced engineers.
• Ensure highway and drainage designs meet standards.
• Engage with clients and manage expectations.
• Present to clients and attend meetings.
• Conduct site visits and report issues.
• Promote excellence and collaboration within the team.
