Job summary

Bennett And Game Recruitment is seeking a Principal Highways and Drainage Engineer to lead the design and delivery of highway and drainage infrastructure in Leeds on development projects. The role supports Section 38/278 submissions and FRAs, with involvement across feasibility to detailed design.

You will use Civil 3D, AutoCAD and drainage modelling tools, coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, and mentor junior staff while ensuring UK standards are met.

Qualifications

• Degree or higher qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong experience within UK development infrastructure engineering.
• Ideally 5+ years' experience in a UK consultancy, local authority or similar.
• Strong knowledge of UK highway and drainage design standards.
• Experience using MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow or similar software.
• Good AutoCAD and Civil 3D skills.
• Experience managing projects and budgets.
• Chartered status or working towards it is advantageous.
• Full UK driving licence for site visits.

Responsibilities

• Leading the design and delivery of highway and drainage infrastructure for development projects.
• Developing highway designs supporting Section 38 and Section 278 submissions.
• Preparing drainage designs supporting Section 104 agreements.
• Producing drainage strategies and flood risk assessments.
• Developing surface water and foul drainage networks from feasibility to detailed design.
• Undertaking drainage design from first principles.
• Producing highway layouts, access designs and junction improvements.
• Coordinating project programmes, budgets and technical outputs.
• Liaising with developers, planning consultants and wider design teams.
• Responding to technical comments and progressing designs through approval.
• Mentoring junior engineers and technicians.
