Job summary

Kier Group plc. is seeking a Principal Highways and Drainage Engineer to lead temporary works design and deliver major infrastructure projects across the UK. You will contribute from concept through to delivery, support tenders, and provide technical leadership on complex schemes.

The role requires Chartered Engineer status or equivalent, a strong grounding in highways and drainage design, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams while maintaining safety and buildability.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Act as Project Lead for multiple complex projects from bid through delivery.
• Produce and review design outputs (calculations, sketches, drawings, 3D models, reports) ensuring compliance with CDM/SHE/QA.

Job Description Principal Highways and Drainage Engineer

We're looking for Highways and Drainage engineers to join our team in various locations around the UK. Locations: Birmingham / Bristol / Cambridge / Cardiff / Glasgow / Leeds / Liverpool / London / Manchester / Newcastle / Norwich / Plymouth - agile working, with up to 1-2 days per week from home if desired. Hours: 40 hours per week - flexibility on hours available if desired. Sector: Working across all sectors of the built environment. Are you... Practically-minded, with a strong grounding in Highways and Drainage engineering principles and knowledge of applicable design standards? A Chartered Engineer (CEng) or of equivalent experience? Do you... What will you be responsible for?

• Highways and drainage temporary works design and checking, reviewing permanent designs for compliance and buildability.
• Supporting tenders and preconstruction planning.
• Providing technical support to overcome construction-stage and post-construction issues and defects.

Main responsibilities

• Acting as Project Lead for multiple complex projects, managing technical scope, programme, budget and relationships with preconstruction and construction teams, from bid through to delivery.
• Producing, checking and reviewing design outputs such as calculations, sketches, drawings, 3D models, reports and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with CDM, SHE, EA procedures and QA processes.
• Developing yourself, other individuals and the wider team, contributing to the continuous improvement of processes and systems, enabling the business to adapt to current and future challenges.
