Job summary

Kier Group plc seeks a Principal Highways and Drainage Engineer to lead complex highway and drainage projects across the UK. You will apply design standards and first principles thinking, author calculations and drawings, and mentor multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, buildable solutions.

The role offers hybrid working across multiple locations (Liverpool included) with flexible hours, supporting major infrastructure schemes from concept through to delivery.

Qualifications

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent experience.
• Strong grounding in highways and drainage engineering principles.
• Experience in temporary works design and/or management.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills.

Job Description Principal Highways and Drainage Engineer

We're looking for Highways and Drainage engineers to join our team in various locations around the UK. Locations: Birmingham / Bristol / Cambridge / Cardiff / Glasgow / Leeds / Liverpool / London / Manchester / Newcastle / Norwich / Plymouth - agile working, with up to 1-2 days per week from home if desired. Hours: 40 hours per week - flexibility on hours available if desired. Sector: Working across all sectors of the built environment. Practically-minded, with a strong grounding in Highways and Drainage engineering principles and knowledge of applicable design standards? A Chartered Engineer (CEng) or of equivalent experience? Do you... What will you be responsible for?

Leading the delivery of a broad range of complex construction engineering services, including some or all of: highways and drainage temporary works design and checking, reviewing
permanent designs for compliance and buildability, supporting tenders and preconstruction planning, and providing technical support to overcome construction-stage and post-construction issues and defects.

Main responsibilities

Acting as Project Lead for multiple complex projects, managing technical scope, programme, budget and relationships with preconstruction and construction teams, from bid through to delivery. Producing, checking and reviewing design outputs such as calculations, sketches, drawings, 3D models, reports and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with CDM, SHE, EA procedures and QA processes. Developing yourself, other individuals and the wider team, contributing to the continuous improvement of processes and systems, enabling the business to adapt to current and future challenges.
