Job summary

QinetiQ Limited is seeking a Principal Engineer in Flight Physics for Rotary Wing applications, based at our Bristol site with flexible options to Farnborough or Boscombe Down. The role focuses on providing technical input across multidisciplinary projects, with responsibilities spanning analysis, testing, and mentoring within a defence technology environment.

The role requires a first degree in Science or Engineering, Chartered Engineer status, and extensive experience in Flight Physics.

Qualifications

• Essential: understanding of Rotary Wing Flight Physics principles and concepts.
• Essential: demonstrable track record in delivery performance.
• Essential: knowledge of military aerospace Rotary Wing platforms and regulatory regimes.
• Ideally 5–10 years post-graduation Flight Physics experience, preferably in advisory, research or consultancy.
• Experience of working with UK military, aerospace and defence customers.

Responsibilities

• Analyze Flight Physics data within the Rotary Wing Domain.
• Make sound engineering and technical judgements based on Flight Physics data analysis.
• Apply Flight Physics principles to a range of work in the domain.
• Evaluate and test aircraft performance, handling and flight characteristics.
• Evaluate and test Flight Control Systems, Engine Control and Air Data Systems.
• Mentor junior team members within the department.
