Job summary

Severn Trent is seeking a Principal Engineer (Design Services) based in Derby. You will lead technical delivery for waste infrastructure schemes, coordinating with framework consultants to meet programme standards, and manage contracts while guiding junior colleagues.

You will drive innovative design solutions, ensure quality assurance, and liaise with hydraulic modellers, internal teams and suppliers to achieve safety and sustainability goals.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified and member of an engineering Institution or working towards incorporated/chartered status.
• Experience in Civil/Structural/Mechanical/Geotechnical engineering, ideally in the Water/Utility sector.
• Full UK driving licence required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, write and manage multiple service orders for professional design services to meet project requirements.
• Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between sponsors, hydraulic modellers, designers, planners and stakeholders.
• Guide the design process and ensure compliance with programme requirements and safety standards.
• Identify, assess and manage risks across design, construction and operations.
• Engage internal stakeholders and the wider supply chain to ensure project alignment and innovation.
• Support project progress through gate reviews and provide recommendations to decision-makers.
