Marks & Spencer Plc invites applications for a Principal Software Engineer in the Customer Platform team. You will lead the modernisation of mission-critical systems powering warehouse operations and customer experiences, collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, build and maintain scalable software.

You will drive engineering excellence, mentor peers, promote clean code and automation, and influence technology and product investments.

Qualifications

• Significant track record of strategic and innovative thinking with execution experience.
• Specialist in clean code and design patterns for common problems.
• Depth of knowledge in information security with security controls embedded.
• Ability to lead senior engineers and technical customers to outcomes.
• Experience with prototyping methods and end-to-end service design.
• Influence on technology strategy and procurement aligned to business needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical excellence from design to operations and launch of core product features or strategic programmes.
• Drive technical direction and influence the overall technology and product investments.
• Champion Communities of Practice to establish engineering excellence.
• Mentor senior engineers and contribute to the engineering ecosystem.
• Promote clean code, clean architecture and automation in the product lifecycle.
• Advocate for productivity, delivery quality and operational excellence.
• Drive DevOps practices to automate the product development lifecycle.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Technology and Product leadership to align strategies.
• Support recruitment, onboarding and brand outreach in engineering.
