Job summary

Marks & Spencer is modernising its Online software engineering stack, seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead a polyglot team and drive delivery of scalable, secure back-end systems. You’ll influence architectural decisions and align with the company’s digital-first strategy.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with product and design, and champion DevOps practices to ensure reliable performance and cost-effective operations as M&S grows its online presence.

Qualifications

• Experience as a senior software engineer leading polyglot teams.
• Strong background in scalable back-end systems, ideally Java-based.
• Experience with order management systems such as IBM Sterling is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing software engineering team.
• Oversee agile delivery of software projects ensuring alignment with business goals.
• Provide technical leadership and develop the team’s roadmap and standards.
• Ensure quality and maintainability of existing systems, enabling scalable growth.
