Renishaw is seeking a Principal Embedded Software Engineer to lead embedded software architecture for next-generation additive manufacturing platforms. You will design, implement and optimise C software for microcontroller-based systems, collaborating with electronics, FPGA, systems, algorithms and mechanical teams, and mentoring engineers. The role emphasizes real-time performance, deterministic behaviour and robust verification.
Qualifications
Degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or Physics.
Strong commercial experience developing embedded software in C.
Solid understanding of real-time and deterministic systems.
Experience with DMA/interrupt-driven architectures and memory management.
Extensive experience leading embedded software architecture across programmes.
Responsibilities
Develop embedded software architectures and applications from concept through to production release.
Design, implement and maintain high-quality C software focused on performance and reliability.
Develop low-level drivers, middleware and application-layer software for embedded systems.
Implement interfaces such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet and industrial protocols.
Optimise software for real-time performance, memory usage and deterministic behaviour.
Support product sustainment and software improvements throughout the lifecycle.
