Job summary

Amey is seeking a Principal Ecologist to lead technical teams and shape project delivery across the UK. You will guide surveys, manage budgets, and contribute to bids while liaising with clients and suppliers.

The role involves on-site work and people management when required, aligning with Amey’s diverse, inclusive culture. We require Chartered Ecologist or equivalent status, strong field expertise, licensing experience (protected species), and knowledge of risk assessment and health-and-safety

Qualifications

• Membership of CIeM or equivalent Chartered Ecologist/Environmentalist status.
• Developed experience and expertise within the ecological field.
• Expertise in protected species surveys.
• EPS Mitigation licence application experience or licence holder/willingness to work toward same (bats & dormice).
• Experience in invasive species survey and management.
• Comprehensive knowledge of ecological processes and survey methodologies.
• Ability to produce technically sound ecological solutions complying with standards and legislation.
• Ability to apply ecological management theory to practical situations.
• Experience in health, safety and welfare tasks (CDM).
• Strong risk assessment and hazard management understanding.

Responsibilities

• Act as technical team leader, advising and supervising on ecological matters.
• Lead surveys and contribute to deliverables ensuring quality and programme adherence.
• Manage project budgets and costs for deliverables.
• Liaise with client and supplier representatives and present proposals.
• Lead bids and contribute to technical and commercial offers under the bid director.
• Work on-site as required, including out-of-hours work and potential full-time temporary roles.
• Act as people manager when required by the business.
