Job summary

Amey is recruiting a permanent Principal Ecologist to lead technical teams within the Consulting Advisory group across the UK. You will advise, supervise and manage surveys, bids and project delivery, ensuring quality, cost and programme objectives are met.

You will oversee ecological processes, protected species surveys and licensing, with the option to act as people manager when needed. Amey offers flexible benefits and development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Full membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or equivalent.
• Chartered Ecologist or Chartered Environmentalist status.
• Developed experience and expertise within the Ecological field.
• Expertise in protected species surveys.
• EPS Mitigation licence application experience and protected species licence holder or working towards same.
• Experience in invasive species survey and management.
• Comprehensive knowledge of ecological processes and survey methodologies.
• Able to produce technically sound ecological solutions conforming to standards and legislation.
• Ability to apply ecological management theory to clear situations.
• Bachelors or Masters degree in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Biology or Environmental Science.

Responsibilities

• Act as a technical team leader, providing advice, guidance and supervision to technical teams, managers and clients.
• Prepare and lead surveys and documentation for scheme deliverables balancing quality, cost and programme.
• Take responsibility for the commercial success of projects within the portfolio and manage budgets.
• Liaise with client and supplier representatives at peer level and higher, including presenting proposals.
• Lead the preparation of bids and the work-winning function with accountability to the bid director.
• Work on site, visiting or full-time temporary role including out-of-hours work.
• Assume the people manager role when required by the business.
