Job summary

AECOM is actively seeking a Principal Ecologist to join our expanding Nature team across multiple UK locations. The role supports hybrid working arrangements, enabling flexible site and office collaboration while delivering high-quality ecological consultancy to major clients.

You’ll lead complex projects, supervise teams, and help develop technical capabilities within our Ecology practice, contributing to large-scale environmental programs in energy, infrastructure and development sectors.

Qualifications

• Degree in ecology or a closely related subject and membership of a relevant professional body.
• Working towards or holding Chartered Ecologist or Chartered Environmentalist status.
• Experience leading ecological surveys/licensing/impact assessment with stakeholder engagement.
• Experience in winning work, managing projects and budgets, and leading stakeholders.
• Experience reviewing technical work and supporting team members.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support delivery of high-quality ecological consultancy and advisory services to internal and external clients.
• Oversee plan, schedule and organise all phases of ecological project work with resources and budgets.
• Support development of robust, pragmatic solutions to complex ecological issues.
• Lead and support ecology chapters for environmental statements and licences.
• Author or technically check project deliverables to ensure high quality outputs.
• Support the continued development of our technical capabilities.
