Job Title: Principal Design Researcher (12-Month FTC)

Salary: £76,194 - £89,640

Location: Chester / Manchester

Hours: Full-Time

Duration: 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract

Working Pattern: Hybrid, involving at least two days per week or 40% of time in the office.


About the opportunity

At Lloyds Banking Group, we are seeking an experienced Principal Design Researcher to join our Experience Design Team. If you are passionate about uncovering insights, driving innovation, and creating customer-centric solutions, this role is for you.

You will be instrumental in understanding customer needs, guiding research activities, and translating business objectives into impactful research plans. You will work closely with researchers, designers, and cross-functional teams, supporting team development through coaching, and collaborating with analytical practitioners to inform design and product strategies.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for design research, industry expertise, and a drive to make a difference, with a deep understanding of research methodologies and practices.

What you'll need

  • Extensive design research expertise, including practical knowledge of research techniques.
  • Ability to lead strategic insight agendas, designing studies to understand future customer needs and opportunities.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills to understand business objectives and develop research proposals.
  • Confidence in conveying insights convincingly and advocating for good research practices.
  • Excellent project management skills, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience working with service designers and data analysts to demonstrate insights.
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Advocacy for accessibility and inclusive design.
