Job summary

Carrington West is seeking a Principal Engineer for the highways design team in a London borough. You will lead the design and delivery of highways projects, acting as technical lead and managing a small team within a busy local authority environment.

Reporting to the Highways Contracts & Delivery team, you will oversee schemes from inception to construction, ensure value for money, and provide expert guidance on traffic issues and client inquiries.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of highways design, traffic engineering and traffic management projects.
• Act as technical lead and PM for a portfolio of schemes, with team leadership.
• Collaborate with the Highways Contracts & Delivery team to ensure deliverability and value for money.
• Oversee the full delivery process from inception to construction with contractors.
• Promote early contractor involvement for best-value solutions.
• Provide expert advice and reports on highways and traffic issues in response to inquiries.

Principal Engineer Highways

We are currently working with a busy London borough with their search for a Principal Engineer in their Highways design team.

What you will be doing:

• Carry out the duties of a Principal Engineer in the design and delivery of a wide range of highways design, traffic engineering and traffic management projects.
• Act as a technical lead and project manager for a portfolio of schemes and programmes of work, including the leadership and management of a small team.
• Work closely with the Highways Contracts & Delivery team to ensure the deliverability, value for money and feasibility of schemes.
• Manage the whole delivery process for schemes, from inception through to construction, in close collaboration with contractors and highways contracts management officers.
• Ensure early contractor involvement in the delivery of schemes and best value engineering solutions.
• Respond to various customer enquiries, investigating complaints and providing expert, high-quality advice and reports relating to highways and traffic issues.

Previous experience in Highways is essential for this role.
