Job summary

Matchtech is working with a client in the highways sector seeking a contract Principal Engineer to support a busy programme of local authority projects. You will lead and oversee highway schemes, using Civil 3D for design and ensuring deliverables meet quality standards.

You will mentor junior engineers, coordinate Section 278 works, and collaborate with internal teams on active travel and urban design. Strong leadership, communication and the ability to manage multiple projects to tight

Our client, a leader in the highways sector, is seeking a contract Principal Engineer to join their team. The team has been particularly busy, primarily with local authority projects, and is looking for additional support during this period of increased workload.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and oversee local authority projects, with a focus on highways infrastructure
• Utilise Civil 3D for design work, ensuring that project deliverables meet quality standards
• Collaborate with internal teams, including permanent and senior engineers working on active travel and urban design projects
• Lead the planning and execution of Section 278 works
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members
• Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure project requirements and timelines are met
• Perform quality assurance checks and approve engineering documentation
• Assist in the management of sub-drainage engineering tasks

Job Requirements:

• In-depth experience in infrastructure engineering within the highways sector
• Proficiency in Civil 3D, with capability for both 2D and 3D design
• Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Understanding of local authority project requirements and Section 278 processes
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines
• Relevant engineering degree or equivalent qualification
