Job summary

NRL Group Limited in Watford is seeking a Principal Design Engineer to lead the temporary works design for major civil engineering projects. You will provide technical leadership, develop innovative solutions, and shape safe, buildable designs for infrastructure schemes.

This senior role requires chartership, a civil/structural degree, and a proven track record in temporary works. The position involves collaboration with project teams, site visits, and ensuring compliance with British Standards

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master's desirable).
• CEng or actively working towards chartership.
• Proven experience in temporary works design within civil engineering or construction.
• Sound knowledge of British Standards and industry guidance for temporary works.
• Competence in software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla Tedds, STAAD Pro or similar.
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing and methodologies.
• Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and engineering phases of temporary and permanent works within major civil engineering projects.
• Develop, review, and approve design calculations, drawings, and technical specifications.
• Provide technical leadership on temporary works such as excavation systems, formwork, falsework, lifting operations, and working platforms.
• Collaborate with project teams and subcontractors to ensure compliance with programme and safety requirements.
• Offer guidance, mentorship, and support to junior engineers.
• Conduct site visits and assessments to verify design assumptions and resolve technical issues.
• Take part in coordination meetings, risk assessments, and constructability reviews.
• Ensure adherence to CDM regulations, industry standards, and company design procedures.
• Contribute to innovation and cost-effective design solutions that enhance safety and buildability.

Location and Working Pattern Watford (hybrid arrangements to be discussed with the client but the initial induction will entail3 months 100% office presence)
