Principal Clinical Psychologist, Memory Assessment and Treatment Service, Wigan working as part of the MDT.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide supervision and oversight of the work of junior psychologists. They will supervise trainees on placement.
They will offer expert specialist neuropsychological assessment to highly complex cases referred to the MATS on a regular basis, and to the other clinical psychologists in other older adult services in Wigan on an ad-hoc basis as required. Other duties will include teaching, training and supervision of staff, service development, and audit and research relevant to the needs of the service. The postholder will provide advice and support to other staff with respect to the evidence base and formulations with respect to memory assessment and the diagnosis of dementia. In some cases they will advise about potential suitable interventions
The post holder will work closely with the Wigan Psychology lead providing line management and clinical supervision to older adult psychologists as required.
The post holder will use their specialist expertise in clinical neuropsychology and dementia treatments to develop and evaluate new evidence based services either in the memory assessment or psychologically based treatment of those with a diagnosis of dementia or those who may be at high risk of developing dementia. They will provide advice to the Wigan Psychology lead in matters of governance in memory assessment relating to the work of the Older Adult Psychology resource.

Person SpecificationEssentialEssential- Clinical Psychologist registered with the HCPC Post-graduate doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent for those trained before 1996) as accredited by the BPS.Post graduate diploma in Clinical Neuropsychology
Desirable- Related academic qualifications to masters or doctoral level Completion of relevant modules of Accredited Doctoral Clinical / Counselling Psychology Course: Introduction to Supervision Courses (approx 30 hours) and/or successful supported supervision of 1 or more trainees. Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology as recognized by the BPS Training in Leadership and Management
Essential / desirableEssential- Significant experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist, in a Later Life service and/or significant experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist in a Memory Assessment service. Experience of working with NHS managers, other professional colleagues and other agencies. Experience of working within a team. Significant experience of assessment and treatment of older adult clients and those with psychological difficulties in the context of an organic presentation, across a full range of care settings. Significant experience of conducting highly specialist psychological and relevant neuropsychological assessments and formulations and advising others about the outcome of this. Experience of working with and planning clinical interventions in a relevant service area. Experience of conducting risk assessments of service users. Experience of supervising Psychology Doctorate Trainees and/or Psychology Assistants or Research Assistants.
