The NHS GG&C Older People’s Psychology Service (OPPS) seeks to appoint an 18.5-hour Band 8a Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist within the OPTIMAL team. The team aims to reduce barriers and enhance access to psychological therapies for older adults across GG&C. The post involves supporting this mission through research, engagement with the third sector, primary care, and community outreach.
The successful candidate will provide specialized clinical psychology services, including psychological assessments and therapies for older adults across all care sectors. They will offer advice and consultation to colleagues and carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines.
Additional responsibilities include staff training, supervision, and service development within a tiered-care model. The team collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to improve care pathways and access to evidence-based interventions, aiming to widen access and improve outcomes for older people.
The role requires research skills for audit, policy, and service development, contributing to demonstrating the impact of the OPTIMAL team’s work. The service covers adults aged 65 and over within the NHS GG&C area, including community mental health teams, hospital liaison services, and specialized dementia and care home services.
The post reports to a Senior Principal Clinical Psychologist for Older People and may require providing input across different service bases as needed.
