Job summary

Avove is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to lead our UK Design team from Brighouse or regional offices. You will drive high‑quality water and wastewater design from concept through delivery while mentoring junior staff and ensuring project alignment with budgets, programmes and client requirements.

You will provide technical leadership, manage design outputs, and engage with regulators, clients and internal teams to deliver complex projects safely and efficiently.

Qualifications

• Strong technical experience in water and wastewater infrastructure design.
• Proficient with AutoCAD and MS Office; able to produce clear reports.
• Proven leadership and collaboration within teams to meet deadlines.
• Degree in engineering or equivalent; professional qualification encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver cost‑effective design solutions meeting technical and client requirements.
• Lead and support engineers, technicians and graduates throughout delivery.
• Maintain high technical standards and ensure outputs align with project briefs.
• Progress projects from preliminary to detailed design with focus on client needs and schedule.
• Prepare, review and approve designs, documents, and calculations; supervise drawings production.
• Ensure compliance with IMS, health, safety and environmental legislation (CDM).
• Build strong relationships with clients during project delivery.
• Support contract preparation with project planning and programming.
• Contribute to bids and tenders for delivery across contracts.
