Job summary

Amey Consulting Scotland is seeking a permanent Principal Civil Engineer to lead highways design teams across Scotland, including Motherwell, Edinburgh and Perth. The role offers flexible working patterns, including hybrid and part-time options, with long-term contracts and a broad project portfolio.

The ideal candidate will have high-level experience in leading engineering teams, delivering technically robust designs, managing safety and budgets, and contributing to bids and business

Qualifications

• Lead Senior Engineer level experience
• Ability to produce technically sound engineering solutions
• Experience with health, safety and welfare management per IMS and CDM
• Capable of acting as engineering lead on contracts (e.g. CEM)
• Design Team Lead for projects
• Strong CDM and risk assessment understanding

Responsibilities

• Act as technical team leader, advising and supervising technical teams, managers, clients and suppliers
• Lead preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation
• Control budgets and manage costs for deliverables
• Liaise with client and supplier representatives, present proposals and respond to queries
• Lead bids and work-winning activities, preparing technical and commercial offers
• Promote and enforce health and safety practices within the team
