Purpose of Job

Lead the delivery of technical services for the Building Control Authority, ensuring that all building work within the Borough meets the requirements of building control legislation and the building regulations, including working with the Building Safety Regulator in the enforcement and regulation of Higher-risk buildings.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical advice through the preparation of reports and briefings on building safety, building regulations, dangerous structures, and land charges regulatory issues.
• Contribute to Council responses to government consultations and technical reviews related to building safety, building regulations, dangerous and temporary structures, and land charges regulatory issues.
• Support the Building Safety Regulator under Section 13 of the Building Safety Act 2022 in the regulation of Higher-risk buildings and enforcement of building regulations.
• Ensure full cost recovery for the Council in support of the Building Safety Regulator as per the Building Safety (Fees and Charges) Regulations (2023).
• Ensure that ‘restricted activities’ are undertaken only upon the advice of a registered building inspector with the appropriate class registration for the building type.
• Ensure that the Council’s building inspectors meet the requirements of the Building Safety Regulator regarding competency assessment, training, and development.

Requirements

• Class 3 Registered Building Inspector - essential requirement
• Ability to start within 2 weeks
• Membership of MRICS, CABE, or similar
• Minimum of five years post-qualification experience, preferably in a Building Control environment
• Experience working in a housing association or council

Contract

• Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm (2 to 3 days onsite)
• PAYE via Umbrella
• Inside IR35
• Initial 3 to 6-month ongoing contract
