Job summary

The Abbey in Manchester is seeking an experienced Arboricultural Consultant to lead development-related arboricultural assessments, surveys and risk reports. You will deliver AIA/AMS/TPP and advise clients through planning and development processes.

You will manage projects from inception to completion, mentor junior staff, contribute to tenders, and represent the business at client meetings and industry events.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Arboriculture, Forestry or related discipline.
• Current QTRA registration.
• PTI certification.
• Strong BS5837 knowledge and tree risk management.
• Proven experience delivering arboricultural consultancy projects.
• Experience writing and reviewing technical reports.
• Strong client-facing skills and commercial awareness.
• Membership of AA/ICF or similar body; Chartered path advantageous.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Undertake BS5837 surveys and development arboricultural assessments.
• Produce AIA, AMS, TPP and risk management reports.
• Conduct professional tree inspections and QTRA.
• Advise clients through planning and development processes.
• Manage projects from inception to completion, including budgets and timelines.
• Review technical reports and support QA processes.
• Mentor junior consultants.
• Prepare fee proposals, contribute to tenders and support BD.
• Represent the business at client meetings and industry forums.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Undertaking BS5837 tree surveys and development-related arboricultural assessments.
• Producing Arboricultural Impact Assessments (AIA), Arboricultural Method Statements (AMS), Tree Protection Plans (TPP) and tree risk management reports.
• Conducting professional tree inspections and Quantified Tree Risk Assessments (QTRA).
• Advising clients throughout the planning and development process.
• Managing projects from inception through to completion, including budgets, programmes and stakeholder expectations.
• Reviewing technical reports and supporting quality assurance processes.
• Mentoring and supporting junior consultants.
• Preparing fee proposals, contributing to tenders and supporting business development activities.
• Representing the business at client meetings, networking events and industry forums.

What you'll need to succeedTo be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

• A degree or equivalent qualification in Arboriculture, Forestry or a related discipline.
• Current Quantified Tree Risk Assessment (QTRA) registration.
• Professional Tree Inspection (PTI) certification.
• Strong knowledge of BS5837, tree risk management and the UK planning system.
• Proven experience delivering arboricultural consultancy projects.
• Experience writing and reviewing technical reports.
• Strong commercial awareness and client-facing skills.
• Membership of the Arboricultural Association, Institute of Chartered Foresters or a similar professional body.
• Progression towards Chartered status would be advantageous.
• A full UK driving licence.
