Job summary

Connex Education Partnership is actively hiring a Primary Teaching Assistant to support pupils across mainstream primary schools in Bridgwater. The role offers opportunities for long-term placements or flexible ad-hoc work, with duties spanning one-to-one and small group support, SEMH and SEND assistance, and creating an inclusive classroom.

The position provides competitive daily pay (£93–£115) and access to training resources, with ongoing support from an education consultant.

Qualifications

• Experience with children or Young People is desirable.
• Experience in a primary school, childcare, youth work, coaching, tutoring, or care setting is beneficial.
• A genuine passion for supporting children’s learning and development.
• Interest in supporting pupils with SEMH and SEND needs.
• Patient, empathetic and able to build positive relationships with pupils.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Flexible, reliable and confident adapting to different classroom environments.
• Ability to support positive behaviour and pupil wellbeing.
• Commitment to equality, inclusion and diversity.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply through Connex Education.
• Right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Support teaching and learning within mainstream primary classrooms.
• Work alongside class teachers to help pupils engage with their learning.
• Provide one-to-one and small group support where required.
• Support pupils with SEMH and SEND needs, helping them access learning and overcome barriers.
• Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, confidence and independence.
• Adapt learning activities and approaches to meet individual pupil needs.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils and school staff.
• Help create a safe, inclusive and supportive classroom environment.
• Follow school policies and safeguarding procedures at all times.
